Next Report on the new blog 7-17-15

This weekend the Herb Bunch is meeting Saturday morning to work on wood butter, lotion bars and more. Saturday afternoon is an open sewing time from 3pm to 5pm.

Sunday is our monthly Potluck in honor of Coronation. We’ll be featuring some Mediterranean dishes. All are welcome! This is a “garb-encouraged” event.

Next week we have Metal Night on Tuesday and Sewing on Thursday, then our regular Herb Bunch and Project Days on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

New Blog 7-17-15

We’ve filled our first blog, so we’re starting a new one! Don’t worry. We’re not going away!

This is the original blog of House Capuchin. We’ve added a 2nd blog at https://housecapuchin2.wordpress.com . This older one contains the posts though July 19, 2015. Pages/Projects will continue to be updated, although some of the most active will move to House Capuchin 2 as time goes on.

Rose Beads Workshop 7-11-15

We are hosting a special workshop this Saturday and bringing an expert down from Washington. Here is your chance to learn this fun (and not difficult) period craft! (…and you have an excuse for a day at the Coast….)

Rose Beads – Saturday, July 11th at 11am and 2pm!

Beads made from the petals of the rose have been a popular home craft since the Victorian era, and possibly Medieval times, though information is sparse for the latter. Delicate, and delicately scented, they make a wonderful addition to the

Roses to dry

historically-based ensemble. This workshop provides instructions for the entire process, as well as the hands-on creation of one’s own starter set of beads. Be aware, this is a messy undertaking, and we do use essential oils. There is a $5 fee per person for materials. (If you choose to do both workshops, please see Anja for a fee reduction!)
Kate McClure, sometimes known as Lady Vilda, has been working with rose bead paste for a number of years. She has also been known to work with fabric, write a bit, and commune with Nature on a regular basis. Owned by four cats, she somehow finds the time to occasionally wander western Washington, in search of adventure.

This will be held at Ancient Light, 145 NE Highway 101 (Pacific Coast Highway) 541-563-7154

To get there, take your best route to Highway 101 from North, South or East (route 34) From the North, you will cross the Alsea Bay Bridge, from the South, simply roll into the business district along the Highway, from the East you’re looking for the stoplight. (Yes, Waldport has just one.)   We are located in the block just south of the stoplight on the east side of the street. You will turn east on Willow Street and immediately left into our parking lot. You can park in front of the hair salon south of us, as they are closed on Saturdays or go on around to the east side of the block where there are a lot of parking spaces. Please don’t take up the few spaces that belong to the businesses north of us!

Upcoming Activities for House Capuchin 6-30-15

This is an interesting week what with the 4th July holiday in a tourist town and AnTir/West War going on down the coast in Gold Beach!

None of the House can go to War, but a bunch of stuff went that direction with Baron Faunus this past Sunday. You can read about that here: http://wp.me/p4yKTJ-1h5

So House things…. There’s no Sewing on Thursday, officially, although I’ll be sewing at the shop from about 3 until closing (7pm) and if anyone comes in we can work on whatever, although I could use a hand stuffing and stitching up balls. Project Day on Sunday is going to be doing a bit of a re-set of what projects we have going and what needs to be finished before Coronation, ‘coz that’s also the stuff that’s needed for Pennsic. Be prepared to be handed projects! 🙂

Next week’s Metal, Sewing and Project Days are at the normal times, although Herb Bunch is being pre-empted both this Saturday (4th) and next (11th)

Ancient Light, (Anja’s and Loren’s shop) is sponsoring 4 workshops on the next two Saturdays and SCAdians are more than welcome!

• This Saturday (7/4) at 11am is Lavendar Wands and bundles. $1 to take 1-3 home with you. (No cost for the workshop)
• Also 7/4 at 2pm is “A Fine Washing Ball”, (Hannah Wolley’s recipe) These are a simple, period “guest soap”. $1 to take one home. (No cost for the workshop)
• Then on Saturday, 7/11 we’re going to have the same workshop twice, at 11am and 2 pm on Making Rose Beads. ($5 to take one workshop, nc for the 2nd…)

Activities upcoming as of 6-17-15

Sewing Night this week is being taken over by tagging of largesse stuff for Investiture. We’ll be doing more over the weekend for things that are going to Root Beer War, Coronation and Pennsic. We could use some extra hands! 6-9pm Thursday evening at Ancient Light.

Herb Bunch will be doing soaps and wood butter, it looks like (Saturday 11am, Ancient Light)

Pouches

Marcus, Rowan and Tammy are heading for Investiture on Friday, so Project Day will be Anja and Loren. (Noon to 6pm, Sunday, at Ancient Light). Balls and Dolls are on Anja’s list and needles, needlecases and wooden cut-out toys on Loren’s. There are jobs for any extra sets of hands that show up, as well.

There *should* be Metal Night next Tuesday at Marcus’, but check first ( ice3jb@yahoo.com ) 7-9pm.

Next Potluck will be either July 12 or 19th. Not sure which, yet.

Upcoming Activities House Capuchin 6-4-15

We had Sewing Night tonight and will be sewing again at 3pm on Saturday. Saturday morning, the Herb Bunch is meeting and we’ll be making stain remover soap balls. On Sunday is our regular Project Day and we’ll both be working on largesse projects and Marcus’ tunic, trying to get that finished in time for Investiture.

Next week will be the regular metal night on Tuesday (6/9) at Marcus’. We’re planning on compounding some casting mix from clay and the sand that Tempus dug last week. Sewing on Thursday (6/11) will be working on

garb and the pouches that we need for largesse. Saturday’s Herb Bunch (6/13) is going to be making Wood Butter again and then more sewing in the afternoon.

The Project Day on 6/14 is our monthly Potluck. We’re planning on a lamb or rabbit dish (or maybe both!) Pear Patina and our usual side

dishes. We’re planning to have the feast begin at 4pm, since several people are coming a long way. All are welcome. The feast is in-garb (if you can). …and bring a project to work on before and after or be prepared to be handed one! 🙂

comfrey. House Capuchin is formalizing an alliance with another household at the Dragon’s Mist A&S Day that afternoon and Anja is going to be holding a Sewing Workshop Saturday at 3pm on Handsewing at Ancient Light.

On Sunday at 2pm Rowan is teaching a class in Men’s Shirts – “Learn how to make mens shirts primarily square construction 1200’s type shirts” This will be in Salem at Baxter Hill Community Hall, 1770 Baxter Rd SE, Salem, Oregon 97306 She will also be demonstrating how to measure, mark and cut panel and gore tunic dresses.  https://www.facebook.com/events/1630208430535904/

Upcoming Activities 5-15-15

We’ve had Metal and Sewing this week. Herb Bunch will meet at 11am on Saturday at Ancient Light. Our monthly potluck, this month in honor of the victor of the Crown Tourney, is on Sunday, starting at noon. We’ll start on projects by noon and plan on eating around 2 or 3pm. All

Workshop – Period Saran Wrap

Period Saran Wrap!

The Experts are making the trek out to House Capuchin’s project day this Sunday, (5/10, 2-4pm) to teach us how these are done. If you’ve missed their other workshops, now is your chance!

There will be hot drinkables and some nibbles provided.

Bring some pre-laundered light-weight linen or muslin pieces that are big enough to drape over your container. Also, note-taking material and if you have an iron that you don’t mind getting a little wax on that would be good too.

This will be at Ancient Light in Waldport. 541-563-7154, 145 NE Highway 101. We’re in the block just south of the stoplight in Waldport. Take your best route (Highways 101 or 34) to said stoplight. One block south of that is Willow Street. Turn left (east) onto Willow and immediately left into the parking lot. There is a sign by the door that says, “Ancient Light”. As all the businesses are closed on Sunday except for the Chocolate Frog, you can park all long the front, or across the street in the pharmacy parking lot.

News for 5-1-15

etal Night and Sewing Time did not happen this week, but we’re on for the Herb Bunch on Saturday and Project Day on Sunday! All are welcome! Herb Bunch is going to be working on Spring Harvest and learning drying techniques. For Sunday, no, our kit-form sheep is going to arrive a week later than planned because of an illness in the transport person’s family. 😦 We’re going to be  celebration the beginning of the 50th year of the SCA and planning Alliance goodies and working on our various 50 for 50 projects this weekend. So, bring a project or just a set of hands or 3 and we’ll play!
