About House Capuchin

House Capuchin Shield2House Capuchin is a group dedicated to the research and re-creation of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, as well as being a place for fun.

We are interested in the arts and sciences of this fascinating time in history, and spend a lot of time researching, making things, dressing up, cooking and eating delicious and unusual foods and talking about the various discoveries that we’re making.

This is the original blog of House Capuchin. When we filled our available space we added a 2nd blog at https://housecapuchin2.wordpress.com  New posts are on that blog, but this one contains the posts though July 17, 2015. Pages/Projects here are continuing to be updated, although some of the most active will move to House Capuchin 2 as time goes on.

Lady seated motifAt the current time, House Capuchin is having a weekly meeting at Ancient Light in Waldport, OR. The meetings are very informal, in modern dress or period costume as you please, but most of us are in ‘Danes… because we’re getting messy! Bring  a project, bring a question…. Most weeks have a theme of some sort, but there are a lot of ongoing projects. There are other venues, (a woodshop, a big kitchen, beaches, a wonderful park, etc.) but we always meet at Ancient Light, first. You can see the latest posts on our blog here: https://housecapuchin.wordpress.com/

motif-sewing-pin-tomato1At the same place, on most Thursdays, starting around 3pm is our Sewing Time. Anja and Loren’s shop has 4 sewing machines (two heavy-duty) a big table and an even larger floor that can be use for cutting out. Anja is usually sewing at this time and can help with the basics.

motif BootmakerOn Tuesday evenings Marcus is sponsoring a Metal Night at his place in Toledo (e-mail for directions, ice3jb@yahoo.com) So far they’ve worked on pins and needles, casting and armor-building.

We also sponsor occasional workshops and classes, usually at Ancient Light, that are not on our Project Days. These often happen because a teacher works weekends, or has other commitments that prevent them making the trek to the coast on a Sunday. The most recent ones are the series of workshops presented by Faunus de Arden of Dragon’s Mist and Seamus o’Caellaich of Tymberhavene.

FishTridentTo find Ancient Light from the North, South or East: find the stoplight in Waldport, Oregon at the intersection of Highway 101 (Pacific Coast Highway) and Highway 34. (From the West, you’re going to be swimming or coming in by boat, so go to the Port Docks in Alsea Bay 🙂 ) Go 1 block south from the stoplight and turn left (east) onto Willow St. and immediately left into the parking lot. We’re the middle part of the block. (541)563-7154

On Google Maps we’re findable as Ancient Light, Waldport, Oregon (they still have our old listing in Seal Rock….)
